Hallucinating Women honors work in the canon of the history of photography, made by women who have inspired my practice. Using text prompts for AI interpretations, and celebrating its hallucinations, these laborious, hand-pulled ink transfers allow me to transform historical images into painterly layered prints that explore the intersection between photography, technology, and image production. The dreamy quality of the prints, with their soft edges and subtle tonal variations, evokes the frailties of memory, while the use of generated imagery adds a layer of contemporary participation in the making of this work. By combining traditional printmaking techniques with digital image production, Hallucinating Women lies at the edges of the boundaries between the physical and digital, the memorialized and the imagined.
